Why convert GIF to MP4?
Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and many messaging apps do not accept GIF uploads, but they all accept MP4. Tips for posting GIFs as videos
- Instagram and TikTok expect clips of at least a few seconds – use “Repeat the animation” to lengthen very short GIFs.
- Very small GIFs are automatically scaled up 2× so they are not rejected for low resolution.
- MP4 cannot be transparent; pick white or black to match where you will post it.

How do I send a GIF from my phone to my computer?

Why did I get a WebM file instead of MP4?
Very old browsers without the WebCodecs API can only record WebM. Use the latest Chrome, Edge or Safari to get a real MP4.
Is my GIF uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser on your own device, so your video never leaves your computer or phone. The only exception is the optional “Upload from phone” QR feature: the file you send is held temporarily so your computer can pick it up, and it is deleted as soon as it is received (anything left over is purged automatically within 24 hours).
