MP4 to GIF – FAQ

How do I convert MP4 to GIF?

Choose your MP4 file above, trim it with the Start/End sliders, choose size and frame rate, then click “Make GIF” and “Download GIF”.

How do I convert MP4 to GIF on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap “Choose video”, select the clip from Photos, tap “Make GIF”, then “Share / Save to Photos”. No app from the App Store is needed.

How do I convert MP4 to GIF on Android?

Open this page in Chrome, tap “Choose video”, pick the MP4 from your gallery or files, make the GIF and tap “Download GIF” or “Share”.

How do I send an MP4 from my phone to my computer to convert?

On a computer, click “Upload from phone”. A QR code appears. Scan it with your phone camera, choose a video from your gallery, and it is transferred to the open page on your computer automatically – no cables, AirDrop, email or app needed. On a phone the button is hidden because you can simply pick the video directly.

Is this MP4 to GIF converter free and without watermark?

Yes. It is completely free, adds no watermark and requires no account.

How do I convert MP4 to GIF without losing quality?

Choose “High (256 colors)”, keep the width at 480–800 px and use 12–15 fps. GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame, but per-frame palettes keep the result very close to the original.

Why is the GIF so much bigger than my MP4?

MP4 uses efficient video compression while GIF stores each frame as an image. Shorter clips, smaller width and fewer frames make the GIF much smaller.

Is there an MP4 file size limit?

There is no hard upload limit because nothing is uploaded; the practical limit is your device memory. A GIF can contain up to 400 frames (for example 40 seconds at 10 fps). Phone-to-computer QR transfers are limited to 100 MB per file.

Can I convert MOV, WebM or MKV to GIF too?

Yes. Although this page is optimized for MP4, the converter accepts MOV, WebM, MKV, M4V and other formats your browser can play.

Can I make a transparent GIF from an MP4?

No. MP4 videos have no transparency (alpha channel), so the GIF will have the same solid background as the video.

Are my MP4 files uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser on your own device, so your video never leaves your computer or phone. The only exception is the optional “Upload from phone” QR feature: the file you send is held temporarily so your computer can pick it up, and it is deleted as soon as it is received (anything left over is purged automatically within 24 hours).

Can I convert MP4 to GIF offline?

Yes. After the page has loaded you can disconnect from the internet and convert files – everything runs locally.
